The agile and elastic product development

Before building a prototype very close to the final product, risks can be reduced by building “Pretotypes,” true forerunners of prototypes to be used as bait. This allows us to be very quick in testing the market response to our ideas, inspired by Lean Startup methodology.

A multitude of factors must be considered in the development of a physical product including, but not limited to, design for the environment and design to facilitate assembly and manufacturability. The approach that integrates these different aspects is called “Design for X” and covers at least 11 of them. Alternative technical solutions are also possible for the same function, which it is often necessary to explore. The agile approach effectively enables these needs.

Elastic development based on Agility, which integrates some Waterfall and Lean elements, is described in detail: in its phases, operational practices and indicators including some of the OKR type. Here we also find the innovative Characteristics Impact Matrix that enables the transfer of technical product characteristics into Backlog elements.
